St. Jerome Mural

Saint Jerome Emiliani’s Mural is a request from the nuns who run the Gesuina Meltzi school in Costa del Sol, El Salvador. Saint Jerome is the patron Saint of their religious order and a symbol of a charitable spirit and solidarity with the poor. He worked with orphan children providing food, shelter, and education to many. The mural was requested after the Turtle Mural was painted, and I saw the need to bring both images together into a cohesive whole. The mural is divided into segments that can be painted during each visit to El Salvador. Starting with the image of the saint, because it was most important for the nuns, each section will depict an aspect of a regular school day for the children, which is made possible by the giving spirit and efforts of the nuns, who are in turn inspired by the Saint.
